2010: Year of the Awesome

2009 is gone, and if the rule of even number years that I just made up right now holds true, 2010 looks to be a new high watermark for awesome.

So to help get every one who reads this (hi mom) excited for the new year I have crafted a Top 10 list of reasons why 2010 is truly the year of the awesome!

10) In the year 2010 there are going to be 10 best picture nominees! Why is this awesome, you are asking yourself. Well this means we are going to see some truly interesting nominees, and I am not talking sweet little indie fare, no I am talking about Star Trek, Avatar and Up are serious contenders. Seriously folks, an animated film, a sci-fi big budget blockbuster and a film staring James T. Kirk could all be Best Picture nominated films this year. Obviously they won't win, but this is a step in the right direction for the academy, recognizing that great film-making isn't restricted to the Drama section of Blockbuster.

9) The New Orleans Saints enter the playoffs as the best team in the NFC... wow, nuff said... awesome.

8) In the coming year several film franchises will see highly anticipated sequels:

- Iron Man 2: Marvel continues to "get it" and further fleshes out their shared universe with the Iron man sequel. What cameos, clues and hints will we see that further set up the films leading up to the mega Avengers film that may or may not usher in the 2012 Armageddon.

- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1: At this point in time you are either all in with Harry Potter or you just don't give a crap, but this book was one of the more exciting things I have ever read, and the film will be awesome.

- Toy Story 3: Be still me 10 year old heart! A new Toy Story, this is just the kind of nostalgia inducing flick that will have me bowing "i'm not worthy" daily in the general direction of Pixars Marin County studio.

7) Kobe being Kobe:




He has already done it 3 times this year, and is on his way for MVP #2 and Championship #5

6) Lots and lots of reading. At the tail end of 2009 I reconnected with a love of reading, and 2010 will be a new Renaissance of literature for me. From the Non Fiction oral history of the Simpsons, Stephen King's new book about a dome and the shenanigans that go on underneath, Guillermo Del Toro's new Vampire novel, all the way to the brand new Sixth book in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy! Going to be alot of fun times under the reading lamp this year... awesome!

5) The return of Futurama! The summer of 2010 will see the return of the funniest show of the
21st century. Having it on good authority (my own) that the show hasn't missed a beat Comedy Central looks to now have 2 animated classics airing new episodes all year long.

4) 2010 is the year that remakes and sequels to films 2 decades old aren't horrible just because. With Clash of the Titans, Alice and Wonderland and Tron Legacy already looking fantastic and the seemingly silly "to soon" remakes (Let Me In and Death at a Funeral) having good directors and interesting casts, this year looks like a good year for the supposed "creatively bankrupt"...

2) 2010 will be the year I get a new Job and with the potential jobs I might land this is a very exciting move forward for me in both creative and financial fields, this new opportunity coupled with me joining a gym and a newly reorganized room, my 2010 personal life will be awesome!!!

1) And now for the number reason why 2010 is the year of the Awesome!! The epically awesome short film that I will write, shoot and edit this year. It will be 5-15 minutes of cinematic awesomeness and the next big step in a life long career choice.
